Pennsic and Not Pennsic

July 27th Some happy things from today: It seems like there are always some kinds of problems with getting the shower to work every year.  This time I feel like the problems weren't as bad.  We didn't end up making a town run for a random thing that broke.  The new water softener seems to work fine.  I remembered to go back this morning to put plumbers tape on the few hose connections that were dripping.  Fingers crossed that the only bad thing to happen now is that the propane goes empty and just needs to be replaced.   The meal plan started.  Next year I really need to plan the before and after meal plan times.  Today I'm happy the plan has started and there is good food to eat. Keziah and I were able to do a few things to help out our friends that lost their car and Pennsic house on the way to the event.   After a lovely meal Keziah, Gideon, and I went to town to watch the movie Hadestown .  It is only in theaters for ...

Pennsic Day 3

Some friends have been working really hard to build a house/shop for Pennsic.  They have been merchants at Pennsic a really long time.  They finished building their house yesterday, loaded it up, and headed for Pennsic.  Somewhere around 3 hours-ish from Pennsic their car caught on fire followed by the house they just finished.  Obviously I am not at all happy about this.  What I am happy about is that the people involved are all alright. Some happy things from today: There are some great people here in camp.  We were able to set up the Common Tent, put up the shower, and I got the plumbing to the shower connected and working.  There is even hot water.  There is one part of connecting the shower that has given us problems from the beginning.  What I thought was going to fix it didn't.  With the help of power tools (Keziah and I did work at it with hand tools first) we made the holes just a little bigger and it has made a big differ...

Storm Brewing

June 18th My short list of happy things from today: The official work week is over.  I'm contemplating picking up a couple hours tomorrow.  At this time, I'm looking forward to the weekend. A short storm came through a little bit ago.  The sky darkened, the wind blew strong, and then rain started to fall.  It was quite lovely while it lasted.  Then the sun came out again.  It was much like what my Aunt Marjorie would have called a ‘clearing shower.’  Technically it wasn't one though because we are still expecting a more severe storm. Just before the short storm I was walking out to the chickens to talk with Bel.  The leaves were blowing and curled up on some of the trees anticipating the rain.  Anyhow, I noticed that many more flowers were blooming on the Catalpa tree. The Catalpa is the one on left over Bel and the chickens.  I think the one to the right of it is also a Catalpa tree but not quite on the same bloom cycle.  I'l...

Intention for the day: Be joyful/happy. Happy Thursday things: At work, I didn't work in Problem Solve.  It was good for the most part.  Honestly, it was much easier to leave the job behind for the weekend.  At home a housemate needed a ride.  I didn't want to because I tend to be very tired after work.  Corvidae couldn't because of some health concerns.  However, together we were able to conquer this task.  I drove and Corvidae kept me awake for the drive home.  The housemate was able to be dropped off at a friend's house and Corvidae and I got to talk about random things without house chores looming over us.  It was a win-win-win.  Then I had a snack, opened my Amazon packages, and went to my room to ‘rest’.  Ten hours later and I'm awake writing this blog.  I didn't sleep that whole time, almost 8.5 hours according to FitBit.  I did wake up and try to write, only to fall back asleep.  Also, I have laundry in ...

Too Long

January 18th Intention for the day: Once again choosing an intention was not solidified before I got going on my day.  This is what it should have been:  to try and stay focused on my to-do list while keeping priorities in mind.  When I first cleaned the shower in this new house I found that there were two cracks in the floor of the tub.  Nothing seemed to leak but I hadn't put a huge amount of water into the tub.  Yesterday I started the process of patching the cracks, today I finished it and took a shower.  Everything seemed great until I stepped on the spot and it cracked again.  I'm looking into waterproof tape now.  Re-doing that bathroom was more of a five year plan.  Thankfully, it doesn't noticeably leak.  It is still out of commission until we figure something else out.  I'm thankful we have more bathrooms with showers.   Here are some happy things from today: Bel and Corvidae were away so I was able to work...
