April 16th Foothills Trail

Image
April 16th  Sometime in the middle of the night I woke up to see the tiny glow of a lightning bug on my tent. It was a fleeting moment, this glowing dot.  Silently it left, the bright dot got dim and larger as it flew away and disappeared.  Stairs... Possibly yucca... Laurel Fork Falls The top of Laurel Fork Falls. A bridge... Maybe Solomon's Seal. There was a severe ice storm this last season. Much of the bridge and other destruction along the trail was caused by either the ice storm or fires. Stephanie isn't really balancing on the railing... Yay!  I made it to the car! This was the end of the backpacking part of the trail for us, but not the trail. Sunset at the cabin. ☮ Continued reading: No Time Like the Past , by Jodi Taylor. Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!

Happy Spring!!

Image
Spring! Happy Friday things: Flowers and plants are getting bigger, some of them anyway. Of the six tulips I'm trying to grow in water, two have produced roots and have been promoted to the window box in the kitchen. There are a couple things, probably tulips, getting bigger in the containers I have outside. The herbs are also getting bigger.  Yay! IronCross Shamrock Oxalis Tulips Bel and I spent some time cutting and sanding some boards. These are to be used in my room to hold backpacks. I'm looking forward to having them off the floor. Most of the afternoon and into the evening I worked with my friend on exchequer (treasurer) reports. Then we had an online meeting with some other friends and went over all the exchequer files to do a book review. It didn't go too bad, but it could have gone smoother. It is amazing how many little things I have forgotten concerning files and spreadsheets. There is a list of things for us to do by the end of April. It was a good l...

Welcome to March

Image
Just in case you, the reader, are interested, March 3rd is Simplify Your Life Day . March is here!  Here are some happy things from today: After waking I did very little for a while.  It is something I think I needed after yesterday.  Yay me resting! It didn't last more than a few hours.  I asked some friends if they wanted to head out for a walk after lunch.  Stephanie was able to join me.  I decided to try training some for the backpacking trip we are taking in April by wearing my not quite full backpack.  We ended up only walking about 1.5 miles because on the next section the snow on the trail hadn't been broken in at all.  It would have been more work, and I was lacking energy.  It was a lovely day to be out there. There was more energy in me than I thought, or the beautiful drive home revived me. At home I did dishes, random cleaning, and then I planted some herbs.  If they grow, we will have fresh parsley, basil, thyme, and cilant...

Organizing

Image
February 24th Happy things: Work was closed because of the storm, but I still got paid.  😁 Sunrise. In the basement, I sort of organized some shelves.  I've taken all the things that belonged to the previous owners and condensed them to the far right so we can start using the shelves on the left.  My eventual objective is to get the Christmas boxes stored there.  Moving is a slow process here, but we are together and that is more important than the unpacked boxes. Before. After. There were some tulip bulbs that didn't get planted with the rest.  I'm trying to start them in small containers with some water and see how they do.  Some of the bulbs don't look good at this point.  The bottom of the containers have some combination of broken glass, ceramic pieces, rocks and clear marbles.  Then the bulbs sit on top.  It is an experiment that will hopefully result in some pretty tulips. Sunset. ☮ Continued listening to: The Art of Community: ...
