Here are some happy things from today:

  • My work week is over.  In two weeks I’ll be working at least another ten hours a week and I am going to take advantage of not having to do that this week.  It is highly unlikely that I will take any extra hours this weekend.  I can’t take a full shift without someone else to watch the dog anyway, and I will use that reason to not go to work.
  • Bjorn and I went for a walk along a rail trail near where I used to live a long time ago.  This trail is maintained to allow for dirt bikes, ATV’S, and snowmobiles.  One dirt bike went by us and was very polite by slowing down and waving.  I wasn’t sure how Bjorn would react with the loud noise.  He was distracted by listening for a squirrel though so it was not an issue. 😂 🐿  
  • There was a large number of red-winged blackbirds in a wetland along the trail.  I only saw a few in the distance perched on the plants, but the noise suggested many.  I pulled out the Merlin app to listen for other birds, but at that time, just the red-winged blackbirds were calling.

Some happy things from today: Since I was up in the middle of the night this morning I decided to try to be a little productive and did laundry.  I had expected to be the only one awake but I wasn't.  I'm happy that I was able to get my laundry in and out before it had an impact on any of the other ten people in the house.   A bonus for getting up early was to get to see a spectacular before-the-storm sunrise. There were other things I thought I would do today, most didn't happen.  Instead I brought Gideon to school and one of our housemates to take their driving test.  The driving test was scheduled at a DMV about an hour away.  We left early so we could practice some things before the test.  We found a mostly abandoned parking lot and practiced parallel parking.  It was a good time.  Things out of my mouth concerning our “pretend” on street parking included, “Well, you're on the sidewalk,” and “Great, but you're still half in the stree...

Back to Work

 April 28th Here are some happy things from today: Very little sleep was had by me last night, and I made it through work.  Yay!  It was tempting to leave early.  I was assigned to Problem Solve in the beginning of the shift and Broomstick at the end.  There was also a Safety Committee meeting with pizza.  Surprisingly, it was good to be back. The quarter one report for my volunteer treasurer/exchequer position is due this week.  I worked on it way too long yesterday.  Today, with fresh eyes, I got it to balance.  Yay!  There is still more to do, but I'm getting there.  I noticed a new bloom in the yard.  Google tells me that it is a rhododendron but the leaves are a lot smaller than what I'm used to. Birka Day Two

 January 24th Intention for the day: Look for the positive/proactive side in all the exchanges possible. Here are some happy things from today: Much of the early part of my day was spent volunteering at the event.  I also attended a meeting for exchequers (treasurers).  There is a possibility that I will be doing that again. I got to spend a little bit of time with my new protégés.  They both know that I want them to update their information on their wiki pages.   I ended up having a lot of fun with a friend who tried to steal a French fry from me.  It became a lovely game of trying to get a snack without the other noticing.  During court this afternoon some wonderful people were given awards for their deeds.  One of these people is a dear friend and the current Seneschal of our Barony.  He was made a Member of the Order of the Mark.  This is a new peerage level award in the SCA.  Here is a link that describes the current peer ...
