January 22nd

Intentions for the day:  Be joyful/happy.

Some happy things from today are:

  • I remembered to talk with HR about my vacation time this year.  I managed to volunteer to work at an event in July that I will need to take some vacation days for.  There is also a trip in April and Pennsic in August.  It all adds up to more time off than I can take with paid time-off.  It will all work out.  I'm glad I got to speak with her about these things. 
  • The Senior Station Manager has been away on Paternity Leave.  He stopped me to talk about general work things today.  It was good to be able to do that.  We also talked about some of the struggles of moving. 
  • Sunset.



  • I found Orion in the sky over the new house.  This makes me very happy.  Taking the time to stop and look makes a difference.  So does a clear sky.  I was also outside about six hours earlier than I normally would be before work.  


  • There was a nap this afternoon that I followed up with going to the craft night at DIY Craft & Thrift.   There Bel and I were able to work on the belts we are making for my new protégés.  I decided to paint on the tip of the belts.  They came out okay. 
They are supposed to be an egg in a nest.

End of day intention wrap up:  Somedays it is harder than others to find joy at work.  Getting to talk with different people helps me be happy.   Staying busy helps too.

 You found it! January 1st. Welcome to a new year of me looking for happiness and gratitude within my day. Thank you for being here. I'm going to try to make a small change to my life habits and I'm going to attempt to bring that to my daily blog.   A recent video I saw was about habits to add to a morning to make a happier life. One of these suggestions was to start the day with an intention. That should mean something mindful or positive. It might turn into a goal for me as I tend to be practical so my mind works that way more. One intention for today was going to include getting out for a walk. As the wind blows and the temperature drops, I'm debating that. That is also more like a goal. The other was to do something different that I might not otherwise do. Birka Day Two

 January 24th Intention for the day: Look for the positive/proactive side in all the exchanges possible. Here are some happy things from today: Much of the early part of my day was spent volunteering at the event.  I also attended a meeting for exchequers (treasurers).  There is a possibility that I will be doing that again. I got to spend a little bit of time with my new protégés.  They both know that I want them to update their information on their wiki pages.   I ended up having a lot of fun with a friend who tried to steal a French fry from me.  It became a lovely game of trying to get a snack without the other noticing.  During court this afternoon some wonderful people were given awards for their deeds.  One of these people is a dear friend and the current Seneschal of our Barony.  He was made a Member of the Order of the Mark.  This is a new peerage level award in the SCA.  Here is a link that describes the current peer ...

My Moving Day

 January 3rd Intention for the day: to enjoy the moving process today. Here are some happy things from today: This morning I woke early, only stayed under the covers a little while, and then got busy with my day.  It felt good to be motivated to get some of this stuff done.  Packing had to happen before my friends showed up to help. Friends arrived a few hours later.  I had achieved less packing than I wanted to but more than I really thought I would.  This seemed like a good position to be in.  We got most of the things loaded between the two pickup trucks.  We made good time and we got to the new house before I thought we would.  Things got unloaded and my bed put back together.  We didn't have the headboard or a few other things and went back for them after going out for a nice lunch.
