Alexa

Intention for the day: To try to get a handle on making intentions.

Here are some happy things from today:

  • For somewhere around a year or so I have had smart lightbulbs with different color combinations and themes to choose from.  They turn on and off using the Echo Dot I have and asking Alexa.  Alexa could turn them off and on and adjust the brightness but the special color combinations and themes I had to change using the app on my phone.  Recently Alexa automatically upgraded to Alexa Plus.  I did not want to upgrade it, but the company decided to make it free for Amazon Prime members.  So one day Alexa suddenly had a new voice.  With Alexa Plus I can now ask for my lights to be different themes, it doesn't seem to be exactly like the app, but better than before.  Purchasing the smart bulbs was a big decision for me, definitely a splurge.  They have made me very happy though.  So worth it for me!
  • Keziah, Bel, and I went to breakfast and then to Tandy Leather down in Massachusetts today.  The recent snowfall again left everything looking like a wonderland of white.  



  • Tandy Leather is in an old mill building.  I love old mill buildings.  The people were very helpful.  By the end of the week I hope to have two yellow belts to give to my two new protégés.



  • I was also able to find my garb.  I'll be needing that this weekend.  

End of day intention wrap up:  With the help of the internet I made a list of potential intentions to choose from.  This will hopefully help me in the future.

 You found it! January 1st. Welcome to a new year of me looking for happiness and gratitude within my day. Thank you for being here. I'm going to try to make a small change to my life habits and I'm going to attempt to bring that to my daily blog.   A recent video I saw was about habits to add to a morning to make a happier life. One of these suggestions was to start the day with an intention. That should mean something mindful or positive. It might turn into a goal for me as I tend to be practical so my mind works that way more. One intention for today was going to include getting out for a walk. As the wind blows and the temperature drops, I'm debating that. That is also more like a goal. The other was to do something different that I might not otherwise do. Birka Day Two

 January 24th Intention for the day: Look for the positive/proactive side in all the exchanges possible. Here are some happy things from today: Much of the early part of my day was spent volunteering at the event.  I also attended a meeting for exchequers (treasurers).  There is a possibility that I will be doing that again. I got to spend a little bit of time with my new protégés.  They both know that I want them to update their information on their wiki pages.   I ended up having a lot of fun with a friend who tried to steal a French fry from me.  It became a lovely game of trying to get a snack without the other noticing.  During court this afternoon some wonderful people were given awards for their deeds.  One of these people is a dear friend and the current Seneschal of our Barony.  He was made a Member of the Order of the Mark.  This is a new peerage level award in the SCA.  Here is a link that describes the current peer ...

My Moving Day

 January 3rd Intention for the day: to enjoy the moving process today. Here are some happy things from today: This morning I woke early, only stayed under the covers a little while, and then got busy with my day.  It felt good to be motivated to get some of this stuff done.  Packing had to happen before my friends showed up to help. Friends arrived a few hours later.  I had achieved less packing than I wanted to but more than I really thought I would.  This seemed like a good position to be in.  We got most of the things loaded between the two pickup trucks.  We made good time and we got to the new house before I thought we would.  Things got unloaded and my bed put back together.  We didn't have the headboard or a few other things and went back for them after going out for a nice lunch.
