Some happy things from the last day of July:

  • The class I took today was on making the Skjoldehamn Belt.    The belt is made using a 12 strand braid.  I wasn't late, but I also wasn’t one of the first ten to arrive and therefore didn't get a kit.  A couple of the late comers (like me) stayed to audit the class.  One of the people who got a kit let us practice it on hers.  Whether I am able to remember all I learned today when I get the time to try it is another thing. 😅  I have a handout, took some notes, and I know the teacher.



  • I made a fingerloop braid for one of the camp mates who has been extremely helpful around camp.  It came out nice, but I forgot to take a picture of it.  It was black and purple and the colors worked together really well.
  • It was Mint Sekanjabin for today's water enhancement.  My limited research on the syrup implied to me that mint is one of the more traditional flavors.  I've liked all the flavors my friend made for me so far.  Tomorrow is the last one. 
  • The lampwork bead making challenge tonight was “Who wears short shorts”.  The glass rods that we melt into beads get short.  This was about using them.  I'm glad I didn't burn myself.  My beads are a little smaller than yesterday's.   That has a lot to do with the shorter glass length.

Some happy things from today: Since I was up in the middle of the night this morning I decided to try to be a little productive and did laundry.  I had expected to be the only one awake but I wasn't.  I'm happy that I was able to get my laundry in and out before it had an impact on any of the other ten people in the house.   A bonus for getting up early was to get to see a spectacular before-the-storm sunrise. There were other things I thought I would do today, most didn't happen.  Instead I brought Gideon to school and one of our housemates to take their driving test.  The driving test was scheduled at a DMV about an hour away.  We left early so we could practice some things before the test.  We found a mostly abandoned parking lot and practiced parallel parking.  It was a good time.  Things out of my mouth concerning our “pretend” on street parking included, “Well, you're on the sidewalk,” and “Great, but you're still half in the stree...

Back to Work

 April 28th Here are some happy things from today: Very little sleep was had by me last night, and I made it through work.  Yay!  It was tempting to leave early.  I was assigned to Problem Solve in the beginning of the shift and Broomstick at the end.  There was also a Safety Committee meeting with pizza.  Surprisingly, it was good to be back. The quarter one report for my volunteer treasurer/exchequer position is due this week.  I worked on it way too long yesterday.  Today, with fresh eyes, I got it to balance.  Yay!  There is still more to do, but I'm getting there.  I noticed a new bloom in the yard.  Google tells me that it is a rhododendron but the leaves are a lot smaller than what I'm used to. Birka Day Two

 January 24th Intention for the day: Look for the positive/proactive side in all the exchanges possible. Here are some happy things from today: Much of the early part of my day was spent volunteering at the event.  I also attended a meeting for exchequers (treasurers).  There is a possibility that I will be doing that again. I got to spend a little bit of time with my new protégés.  They both know that I want them to update their information on their wiki pages.   I ended up having a lot of fun with a friend who tried to steal a French fry from me.  It became a lovely game of trying to get a snack without the other noticing.  During court this afternoon some wonderful people were given awards for their deeds.  One of these people is a dear friend and the current Seneschal of our Barony.  He was made a Member of the Order of the Mark.  This is a new peerage level award in the SCA.  Here is a link that describes the current peer ...
