Tent and Stuff

 June 3rd

Ah Wednesday, the middle of my three day work week.  Here are some happy things from my day:

  • A fellow employee asked me today if I got the Interim Safety Champion position.  He told me that he had also applied and decided that it wasn't for him.  I have to admit that I was surprised by the question since I haven't even interviewed for it yet!  This sort of made me happy that he thought I would get it.  He didn't want to talk about why he changed his mind, but now I am waiting for the other shoe to fall!
  • After some thought and only a small amount of research I bought a four person tent and cot from Amazon.  The tent arrived over the weekend and the cot today.  Completely by myself, making a few mistakes, and not looking at the directions until I obviously had the rain fly on wrong, it took under 40 minutes to set up.  I'm sure that, now that I've done it once,  I'll be able to cut that time down a bit.

After a try where I had the order of operations wrong,  it is up!

Looking up through the roof before adding the rain fly.

This is very wrong.

After looking at the directions I figured out where the front of the rain fly was.  The branding is on the side and not the front, that is what threw me off.

  • The cot is large, but not much different than my previous ones.   That took under six minutes to set up and put into the tent.  It is almost too long for the tent.  Now I have a set up for when the pavilion is too big to transport to SCA events, or for a camping trip that isn't backpacking.  I love that I can store totes under the tall cots.

  • As I write this I am on the cot in the tent.  There is a mild breeze that occasionally comes through.  The canvas pavilion would probably be a bit cooler, but in the shade, this is nice.  If I didn't have to go to work tonight, I might sleep here.  Instead, I'll take it down and pack it up for another time.

  • Now I'm back in the house.  The tent didn't get folded small enough to get back into that bag.  I'm too tired to mess with it.  I'm happy that I chose a tent I can stand up in.  It makes changing into long medieval gowns easier.  😂

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
