Fun With Light

 May 26th

Tuesday’s happy things:

  • After work I went to DIY Craft and Thrift again to help Keziah and friends get the store ready to open tomorrow.  Only three more days and it will be closed indefinitely while they restructure the business.  I was exhausted from working all night. I rallied and some general cleaning up and vacuuming until it was time for me to go home.  
  • One of Keziah’s friends came by to visit.  She is very pregnant and so the three of us had a conversation about pregnancy and childbirth.  Keziah was remembering being three and a half-ish when I had Bel.  This led to conversations about grandparents.  This led to tears as Keziah and I looked at each other remembering my mom.  It was happy memories bringing on tears of nostalgia and missing someone who is no longer with us.  Apparently my mom was the best Gramma ever.
  • On the lighter side of happy I doodled today.  While on the phone with TF I found some colored pencils and a small piece of paper and sort of drew a flower and then added to it.  It isn’t great, it is a doodle.  However, I randomly chose the colors.  My room was lit with ‘Spring’ colors from my smart bulbs.  They were alternating between greens, pinks, and others so that as long as I didn’t read the pencil, the colors were a bit off to my eyes.  Anyhow, here is the finished doodle with some regular and other lighting.

Some happy things from today: Since I was up in the middle of the night this morning I decided to try to be a little productive and did laundry.  I had expected to be the only one awake but I wasn't.  I'm happy that I was able to get my laundry in and out before it had an impact on any of the other ten people in the house.   A bonus for getting up early was to get to see a spectacular before-the-storm sunrise. There were other things I thought I would do today, most didn't happen.  Instead I brought Gideon to school and one of our housemates to take their driving test.  The driving test was scheduled at a DMV about an hour away.  We left early so we could practice some things before the test.  We found a mostly abandoned parking lot and practiced parallel parking.  It was a good time.  Things out of my mouth concerning our “pretend” on street parking included, “Well, you're on the sidewalk,” and “Great, but you're still half in the stree...

Birka Day Two

 January 24th Intention for the day: Look for the positive/proactive side in all the exchanges possible. Here are some happy things from today: Much of the early part of my day was spent volunteering at the event.  I also attended a meeting for exchequers (treasurers).  There is a possibility that I will be doing that again. I got to spend a little bit of time with my new protégés.  They both know that I want them to update their information on their wiki pages.   I ended up having a lot of fun with a friend who tried to steal a French fry from me.  It became a lovely game of trying to get a snack without the other noticing.  During court this afternoon some wonderful people were given awards for their deeds.  One of these people is a dear friend and the current Seneschal of our Barony.  He was made a Member of the Order of the Mark.  This is a new peerage level award in the SCA.  Here is a link that describes the current peer ...

 March 26th Happy Thursday things: My work week is over and I'm very happy about this.  I may pick up a short shift if one comes up, but for now I'm looking forward to the weekend.  On the way home from work I took a detour and went by our old house.  I picked up a few things and got pictures of some crocuses there that I planted in previous years.  At the new house I noticed some green and yellow in the yard by the pool.  After closer examination I found yellow flowers and some of purple ones.  After taking pictures and not having luck with a possible identification, I meant to go outside again for an even closer look, but I got distracted.  I feel like I have seen something like this and should know what they are.  However, more spring flowers!! The book that I have been listening to, Nettle & Bone , is over.  The author created a truly magical world that I very much enjoyed.  I'm considering trying more of her books.  ☮...
