Names

 January 14th

Intention for the day:  My default for work days will be to learn someone's name at work.  Perhaps when I am more in a routine I'll come up with other ideas.  I like this one though.  

My happy things from today are:

  • Work went well.  My mood was much better today than it was yesterday.  I even told my supervisor to smile.  😁
  • This week I remembered to go to the old house and take the trash down to the street.  Trash pickup is there tomorrow and we forgot last week.  As I left the old house I realized I had missed some bags, that I will have to wait for another day. 
  • The Verizon outage today made it difficult for Gideon to get in touch with anyone for a ride home from school.  None of us are sure of the timing with the occasional after-school activity thrown in since the move.  I ended up picking him up today.  It was nice to see him.  I feel like I haven't seen him as often since the move.  Our short ride home was full of conversations about the outage.
  • Colored pencils were my medium of choice today.  I went back in the coloring book to a page I started a long time ago.

End of day intention wrap up:  I learned another name today, maybe two.  Introducing myself is not how I'm learning names, hearing them used by someone else is.  I'm only 61, maybe when I'm 62 I'll be more comfortable introducing myself to someone.

 You found it! January 1st. Welcome to a new year of me looking for happiness and gratitude within my day. Thank you for being here. I'm going to try to make a small change to my life habits and I'm going to attempt to bring that to my daily blog.   A recent video I saw was about habits to add to a morning to make a happier life. One of these suggestions was to start the day with an intention. That should mean something mindful or positive. It might turn into a goal for me as I tend to be practical so my mind works that way more. One intention for today was going to include getting out for a walk. As the wind blows and the temperature drops, I'm debating that. That is also more like a goal. The other was to do something different that I might not otherwise do. Birka Day Two

 January 24th Intention for the day: Look for the positive/proactive side in all the exchanges possible. Here are some happy things from today: Much of the early part of my day was spent volunteering at the event.  I also attended a meeting for exchequers (treasurers).  There is a possibility that I will be doing that again. I got to spend a little bit of time with my new protégés.  They both know that I want them to update their information on their wiki pages.   I ended up having a lot of fun with a friend who tried to steal a French fry from me.  It became a lovely game of trying to get a snack without the other noticing.  During court this afternoon some wonderful people were given awards for their deeds.  One of these people is a dear friend and the current Seneschal of our Barony.  He was made a Member of the Order of the Mark.  This is a new peerage level award in the SCA.  Here is a link that describes the current peer ...

My Moving Day

 January 3rd Intention for the day: to enjoy the moving process today. Here are some happy things from today: This morning I woke early, only stayed under the covers a little while, and then got busy with my day.  It felt good to be motivated to get some of this stuff done.  Packing had to happen before my friends showed up to help. Friends arrived a few hours later.  I had achieved less packing than I wanted to but more than I really thought I would.  This seemed like a good position to be in.  We got most of the things loaded between the two pickup trucks.  We made good time and we got to the new house before I thought we would.  Things got unloaded and my bed put back together.  We didn't have the headboard or a few other things and went back for them after going out for a nice lunch.
