Event Day

Image
Saturday the 28th of February  Here are some happy things from this last day of February: There were things I couldn't find this morning so I left later than I had hoped.  Arriving at the event later than I wanted was still on time though.  It was nice to see a bunch of friends.  I helped out a tiny bit at the gate (where people check in), but mostly attended court and talked with friends.  It was good to be able to sit and talk with others and brainstorm other event ideas, new treasurer rules, how to re-ignite the Cook's Guild, and more.  Their Majesties were gifted giant cookies. 👆This scroll was created on stained glass. 👇 After the event eleven of us went to a local restaurant for dinner.  We were pretty much the only people there besides the staff and the live musician.  Everyone but me (who doesn't really like food) really loved the food and want to go back there if we have an event near there again.  It was mostly barbecue, so ...

Try, Try

February 27th Happy Friday things: There are two words that I try not to start my sections with here.  One of those is ‘I’.  It is a word I'll occasionally start a sentence with, but try not to start the paragraph/section with.  The other word is 'today.'  It is very tempting to start each section with the word ‘today’ probably followed with ‘I’. I know I do it, but try not to.  In one of the boxes I unpacked there was a diary of mine from November of 1974.  It contains one week of entries with every single day starting with the words ‘Today I.’  I was almost ten years old.  It was a fun read.  There was a lot of TV in my life then.   Another thing I found was a bag that said ‘fossils’ on it.  It might have once belonged to my former father-in-law?  I'd like to learn more about rocks and such so this was a fun find. Then I found some issues of Rocks and Minerals from the 1950's that belonged to my Uncle Bill.  My rea...

That Darn Cat

Image
Thursday February 26th Once again I fell asleep before writing, oh well.  Here are some happy things from this Thursday: At work for the first part of the night I was tasked with the job of picking packages up from the conveyor belt and putting them onto the correct rack.  There is a little more to it, but that is the main part.  It involves walking back and forth a lot.  By the end of the entire shift I had over 20,000 steps.   While eating my after work meal, Kayden decided he wanted attention.   Since I was sitting on the couch to eat I should have expected this.  Since a warm cat on my lap benefitted me, I allowed him to curl up, but refused to give him any attention until I finished eating.  🤷🏼‍♀️  He seemed okay with this arrangement.   After I ate and gave him some attention he fell asleep.  I possibly drifted off a little myself.   His asleep position at one point was a little odd. ...

February 25th  Here are some happy things from today: Due to the storms south of here, work started late today.  It made for a weird feeling day with times being a little off in my head.  We made it through and the company treated us to Pizza Hut pizza after work.  Yay, free food! There were messages on my phone after work and people hanging out.  I sat there for about an hour texting on the phone and talking with people sitting near me.  This was good. There were fun things I wanted to do when I got home.  They didn't happen.  I had business calls and dishes to do and distractions that happened.  However, I also visited briefly with a member of the house that I don't always get to see and that was really nice.   The flower I was given on Valentine's Day still looks great!   ☮ Finished listening to: The Art of Community: Seven Principles for Belonging , by Charles H. Organizing

Image
February 24th Happy things: Work was closed because of the storm, but I still got paid.  😁 Sunrise. In the basement, I sort of organized some shelves.  I've taken all the things that belonged to the previous owners and condensed them to the far right so we can start using the shelves on the left.  My eventual objective is to get the Christmas boxes stored there.  Moving is a slow process here, but we are together and that is more important than the unpacked boxes. Before. After. There were some tulip bulbs that didn't get planted with the rest.  I'm trying to start them in small containers with some water and see how they do.  Some of the bulbs don't look good at this point.  The bottom of the containers have some combination of broken glass, ceramic pieces, rocks and clear marbles.  Then the bulbs sit on top.  It is an experiment that will hopefully result in some pretty tulips. Sunset. ☮ Continued listening to: The Art of Community: ...

More Plowing

Image
February 23rd My intention for today is to laugh at things that I find frustrating.  Here are some happy things: Pretty white outside in the morning. There was an appointment I had this afternoon.  I decided to reschedule because of the storm.  When I told Zed this a gust of wind blew creating a momentary white out to the backyard.  We laughed at the timing.  Plowing takes a long time.  Or at least it does when there is so much snow it is hard to find a place to put it.  There is one corner that keeps giving us trouble.  I know how I will handle this next year I think.  There is too much snow and it would be a lot of work to move it this late in the season.  Anyhow, plowing is work, but it is so much kinder on my body than shoveling.  I know this for sure from shoveling out the stuck plow!  🤣🤪😂 I slid sideways into the snow bank.  It turns out I need to consider physics when plowing!  🤣  The snow is cov...

Storm Prep

Image
February 22nd Here are some happy things from this pre-storm Sunday: Getting to my friend Stephanie's house involves an absolutely gorgeous drive.  I wasn't able to take any pictures.  The trees were dark and heavy with snow, white clouds in the sky.  It was lovely.   Stephanie and I only had a few hours for me to try on her backpacks to see if I liked them (they are much lighter than mine is) as well as go over some equipment questions.  We are going backpacking in April and this was part of the planning process.  It turns out that my heavier backpack is more comfortable for my body than either of hers.  If only it were lighter! After that productive visit I met a friend at the SCA storage area to go through the supplies and equipment we store.  We are trying to make sure things are labeled well in storage and hopefully easy to get to.  We also had a nice lunch together.   We found a box of old newsletters. This cover wa...

Snow Angel

February 21st Intention for today:   After being awake for about four hours I was feeling like I was lacking all motivation.  Then I thought about how I had already done a few dishes, had breakfast, gotten dressed, and paced around enough to have over 3000 steps.  So what if I had fallen down some random internet research rabbit holes in the process.  It was still early in the day, things could get done.  Maybe I could set an intention for my day and that could help me be more productive in one way or another.   My goals and intentions for the day are to joyfully accomplish some of my todo list.  If the item is hard to do joyfully, find a way to rejoice or celebrate whatever progress was made toward that goal. Happy things from today: The freshly fallen snow was very pretty this morning.  The following pictures were taken close to the same time as yesterday's sunrise.  What a difference a day makes! A trip to DIY Craft & T...
